Nottinghamshire's Premier Brass Band

Blidworth Welfare Band gained another credible 5th place at the Midlands Championship Section Regional Contest held in Bedworth on Sunday 10th March 2019.

The test piece this year was Ray Steadman-Allen's 'Seascapes' based upon the John Masefield poem 'Cargoes' which was a real test for bands throughout the section and had plenty for all players to do throughout the piece.

Blidworth's Musical Director, Simon Oates said of the piece "It is a real tapestry of musical layers requiring every player to be able to play their part, however if players are not on top of their parts then collectively band's could just weave a doormat for others to wipe their feet on".

Adjudicator's Brett Baker and Derek Broadbent remarked that they were rewarding bands that gave a musical performance of the work; comments that were also applied to Blidworth's performance by the band press, British Bandsman and 4barsrest.com

The band goes into 2020 in 4th position (with bands dropping the 2017 result from the average) and as Nottinghamshire's Premier Brass Band, the highest grading in the history of the band.

Blidworth Welfare Band will now be starting work on their production of 'Brassed Off' together with Argent Theatre Company as well as simultaneously working up their programme for their forthcoming CD recording and entertainment contest programmes.
