Shirebrook Open Entertainment Runners Up

Blidworth Welfare Band attended the Shirebrook Open Entertainment Contest on Sunday 7th July 2019 claiming 2nd prize off a number 1 draw.

Blidworth performed a programme of music that found favour with the adjudicator, Steven Mead whose remarks were:

East meets West

Great atmosphere and colours, super dynamics to start. Duet does really well. Rhythmically alert. Fine presentation, soloists excel. Just a slip heard at ff, but this is so well done. Bravo!

With his first Breath (Soloist Lynden Cooper)

Warm toned, expressive soloist who carries the lines well and secure upper registers and intervals. Band sound is supportive and tuneful. Only a few tiny 'spots'. Tender emotions, much appreciated by the audience.

Water of Tyne

Band need to be softer under the read text. Expansive melody given just the right treatment by the band. Soloists and counter melodists excel. This is beautiful on the ear... like a summer breeze. I'm impressed by the quality you sustain at piano and pianissimo.

The Four Seasons

great effects. Ensemble rocksat times between band/percussion. Again fantastic use of soft dynamics.

Well done. Avery well put together programme presented with a high degree of professionalism. Thank you.

The band will be performing next on Sunday 14th July at Carr Bank Park, Mansfield under the direction of Gary Wyatt whilst Blidworth MD, Simon Oates takes a well earned holiday.
