Euphoric Blidworth

Blidworth Welfare Band are euphoric with the signing of Lynden Cooper as their Principal Euphonium player. ​​

Lynden started playing at the age of 4 and is the 6th generation of his family to play and teach music.


He has performed at the highest level in brass banding as Principal Euphonium with bands such as William Davis Construction Group Band, Ransomes, Rhodian, Newstead Brass and competed in the British Open and the National Finals at the Albert Hall London (the latter on no less than 14 occasions).


Between 2011 and 2013 Lynden was awarded the best instrumentalist and best soloist awards at the Leicestershire Open, Oxford Open and the Bolsover Entertainment contests. As well recent solo prizes, Lynden also held the following titles: Winner of NEMBBA Junior slow melody championship in 1975/6, Winner of NEMBBA Junior slow melody championship in 1977, Winner of NEMBBA Open slow melody championship in 1977, Runner up in the Yorkshire area slow melody championships 1977, Runner up in the Junior slow melody championship of Great Britain 1978 and Winner of the Junior slow melody championship of Great Britain 1979.


Widely recognised as one of the leading Euphonium players in the Midlands, Lynden is also in demand as a teacher and has coached several successful junior brass bands in competition and taken large groups on foreign tours in Holland, France and Germany.


More recently Lynden has been the musical advisor for several local amateur theatre group productions of Brassed Off and is also the musical director of the current Butlins 2nd Section Champions Shirland Miners Welfare Band.


Lynden joins Blidworth from Yorkshire Championship Section, Unite the Union Band and is pictured here with Carl Ramplin, 2nd Euphonium at Blidworth Welfare Band.
