From his early Salvation Army days Geoff has always been in touch with his brass band roots. After progressing through Hertfordshire County Youth Orchestra where he was principal trumpet he joined Welwyn Garden City Band as assistant principal then soprano and performed as a semi-professional trumpet player in shows, orchestras and big bands around North London.
In 1983 he joined The Royal Air Force Music Services and served with the RAF Western Band, RAF Germany Band and The Band of the RAF College at Cranwell. This also included service as a Medic in the First Gulf War.
Since leaving the RAF he has taught for Lincolnshire County Council and is now a freelance player in genres from big band, through soul to classical.
Before his recent resurrection as soprano with Blidworth Welfare, the interim saw stints as MD with Skegness Silver Band, Bestwood Black Diamond Welfare Band and performances with Blackburn and Darwen and Hatfield Power Fuels Doncaster bands.
