Aged 14, our second cornet player Corey is the youngest member of the band. Having first picked up a Cornet when he was 8 years old at school and soon after joined Ilkeston Brass Training Band - he quickly moved to the main band reaching Solo/Repiano Cornet before joining Blidworth Welfare band in November 2018. He is also Principal Cornet of the Derbyshire Army Cadet Force band as well as the National Army Cadet Force band and has taken part in tours to France and Gibraltar. Among his many engagements he has performed at Edinburgh Castle, A Parade for King of the Zulu’s in Wales, and has played Last Post at Lincoln Castle on Remembrance Day. In January 2020 he received the highest award in the Army Cadet Force - the BAE Systems National Excellence Award for music. Corey has also enjoyed some success on the solo circuit having won at both Derby Arts & Selston Music Festivals in 2017 & 2018. In 2019 he was awarded the Selston Music Festival Special Award. As if this doesn’t keep him busy enough, he also attends South East Derbyshire Music Centre, North East Midlands Youth Brass Band, Grimethorpe Youth Brass Band, Derbyshire City & County Youth Wind band and conducts Ilkeston Brass Beginners Band as well as studying for his GCSEs, including Music. Corey is probably the only teenager who has the full back catalogue of Black Dyke and Cory Band CD’s downloaded on his phone and Richard Marshall, in particular, is his inspiration.
